SUPPORTING THE DREAMS OF YOUNG PERFORMING ARTISTS
The Grünbaum Fischer Foundation awards scholarships to artists from communities and backgrounds that are underrepresented in their fields.
The Foundation
About the Foundation
The goal of the Foundation is to carry forward the legacy of Fritz Grünbaum to support highly talented underrepresented performing artists. Grünbaum helped musicians, stagehands, custodians and others who worked with him in the theater during the worst years of the Great Depression and as racial and discriminatory laws made life harder and harder for Jews and other groups targeted by the Nazis. His courage and generosity in the face of adversity and ultimately death is the inspiration for the existence and work of the Foundation.
Grants
The Foundation awards grants to support the education and endeavors of underrepresented youth who excel in the performing arts, and whose socioeconomic background might otherwise limit or preclude the pursuit of a successful career in that field of art.
Grants are based on the specific needs and circumstances of the awardee.
Funding
The Foundation is funded predominantly from the sale of art works that were owned by Fritz Grünbaum, stolen by the Nazis from him, and ultimately restituted.
